√ Unlimited paid leave
√ Mandatory annual holiday breaks
√ Contributions towards your holiday spending money
These are but a few of the perks on offer across a growing number of companies who are re-jigging traditional vacation policies in return for greater productivity. As more and more employees strive to find that perfect work life balance it is refreshing to read that there are companies willing to change the rules and offer more flexibility when it comes to taking a break.
After reading an article published on Forbes.com about a series of US companies, such as Netflix, Evernote, Zygna and FullContact, who have already embraced this concept of flexible vacation, we thought it was time for some change closer to home. As of this week, Katoka has decided to implement our own “unlimited paid leave” policy.
Any fan of The Simpsons will remember a clip from one of their episodes which provides a fabulous parody on the proverb “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy”. There is now a large amount of research showing the benefit of taking regular breaks from work and the improvement in productivity companies & their staff can gain from such practices.
According to Phil Libin, CEO of Evernote, it’s as simple as seeing the difference between paying someone an hourly rate and paying them for the use of their mind. He says, “What makes you more productive is what you should do.”
So without further adieu, we introduce our new (and somewhat plagiarised) mantra:
Tired? Stressed? You’ll feel better on… Vacation!
